Some people might ask WHY the heck would you want
your DL in coverage, rather than HOW you can get them into coverage. But that's
a question that, if you ask it at all, I will allow you to ponder on your own.
Simulating the real-life NFL zone blitz scheme is one thing FBPro actually does
pretty well.
The hallmark of the zone blitz is dropping defensive linemen into coverage while
sending blitzers from the LB corps and secondary. This brief tutorial will not
tell you when and where to blitz from as I don't believe there's a single answer
to that question, but it will help you get the DL into zone coverage in the play
editor.
First, a short digression. Why would you NOT want DL in coverage? DL are big and
slow. Pass coverage is the job of the small and the quick. It's that simple.
But if you insist on sending 300-pounders lumbering after WRs and TEs on wind
sprints downfield, this is how you do it. There is obviously not a built-in
coverage option for DL in the play editor, so you have to trick it a little.
First, assign a LB to cover the zone you want your DL to cover.
Second, right click on the DL you want to have in coverage, and choose
substitute.
Third, replace the DL with the LB you used in step one.
Fourth, move the DL back to the proper spot on the LOS. That's all!
When you make the substitution, the play editor will tell you the logic is being
erased. But it won't be. Most logic other than zone coverage will either be
erased or crash the game when you try to use the play, so keep it simple!
I will also respectfully suggest that the smaller the area a big, slow DL is
asked to cover, the better his chances of actually covering it.
Sending the DL into coverage isn't for every down and situation. However, I have
found it to be a successful technique now and again. Good luck!
